The manual recommends 2-3 mm of slack at the lever. Did you find that 2-3 mm slack at the lever doesn't correspond to sufficient freeplay at the crank?

I didn't bother to check. I had terrible results doing the adjustment per the manual. The key is just a perceptible about of free play at the engine clutch crank. Works like a charm, clutch engagement is perfect and it does leave some free play at the handlebar lever.

So are you saying to just putt some slack in the motor side of the clutch cable???

Yes. Adjust the clutch cable at the handlebars to attain a small but perceptible amount( checking by hand) of free play at the engine crank.
