Well, the unthinkable happened and I crashed my bike over a week ago, and for the first time ever turned it over to ins. company because the damage exceeded my deductible. Had the dealership estimate the damage and send report to insurance company and mostly because of tiny paint chip in the engine casing the bike was totaled. I'm getting money from insurance and a choice of buying the bike back but it will have salvage title and since I never had to deal with this before was wondering what's the process of getting the bike back on the road.
Getting it fixed will be no problem, I can get it fixed for around a grand if I get parts second hand, getting it inspected and getting rebuild title on the other hand it's something I'm not familiar with. I'll be calling Secretary of State or DMV as other US states call it on Monday to see if I can get info from them, but since I have to make a decision quick I figured I'd ask on the forum if someone had this done before?

BTW The cause of crash was my favorite friend the gravel, was on my way to work @5:30 in the morning, dark road, was turning going about 30 and felt back wheel starting to slide tried to correct it but it was to late, walked away with few bruises and slight wrist fracture, found out next day they were doing some road work few days ago and the $hit was everywhere.

Contact your DMV for details.
Here in WA State you get it inspected, they issue a new title and plate which reflects it was a total that was repaired and reintroduced to the road.
You should be good to go after that. Note that with your "new" vehicle history, your resale value shall be severely reduced.

PISSER about your crash  Glad your mostly alright :p I bought back a totaled bike and fixed it about 30 years ago. It didn't have a salvage title. Never had to have it inspected either. Not sure how they are doing it now. If you get it for a good price, just let it have a salvage title. If you sell it down the road, just explain it to the prospective buyer.

each state is probably different.
a salvage title makes the bike lower value and harder to sell ( people will be afraid of it ) so if you can get a real bargain that would be good because you know what happen to it.

Haven't done it with a bike but did it with one of my cars. Didn't bother me at all to have "Salvage" on the title since I planned to drive it until it died which turned out to be many years later.

I figured the value will drop quite a bit but I told myself I'll have it forever, or at least I'm hoping to. If the process to get it back on the road ain't PITA it's worth it even though I think they want bit too much.

Payed it off Friday and crashed it Monday right after the Blessing. I figured the blessing must of been for myself and not the bike. All in all I can't complain too much;)

Last time I had a salvage title on a vehicle I could only get liability insurance no comprehensive or collision.

If licensing to get it back on the road proves to be too much a PITA you could just part it out and get your buy back money back assuming it's not some ridiculous amount. I've bought cars back before and it was years ago so have no idea what it is now but the figure $300 is in my head. I say go for it.

Interesting - didn't know that and now I shall have to check here in my state.
