So for us guys down under....or at least me...
Why do you need all this proof? Is it because youre entering different states?
We can travel from one end of our country to the other with no problems as there are no different states. Aussie is the same.
As you can tell, ive never been to the USA....enlighten me.

It boils down so that I can get a patch and a piece of paper from Iron Butt Association stating that I did a 1,000 mile day. I could pretty it up more than that I suppose but that is the truth of it...to have a certificate to go rooster over.

Now why is the IBA so particular?

Because they operate on a volunteer basis and the whole thing really does operate on the integrity of the system with what people are doing and that they verify and give the certificates out to those who earned them. If they didn't do that then the whole thing would go to he11 in a hand basket. So the receipts along with the odometer shows the proof. The receipts will have physical address along with date and time. So you can verify that with the odometer. For example, I am going from Kansas City to New York State so that will show the line by fill ups...Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. They can track that to see it is legit and on the up and up.

I have been reading that my kind journey is easier and faster to verify because it is a one way trip. A lot of people go to get their certificate on a weekend where you have to loop your course in order to get the miles and naturally, there is more opportunities for monkey business when the course is looped. It is a little bit of a hassle to go through all the hoops but I get it...if the IBA didn't do this then the integrity of their system would be crap and the certificate would be worthless.
 
Gotcha now....seems quite logical to me too.
Do you get an IBA patch to sew on ?? or just a sore butt?

Your quite perceptive some times Steve! You tough enough? Of cause you have to participate in in a gay pride march too and have your photo taken with a receipt for your outfit next to the patch. Discreet of cause, No need for a Brazilian or anything sordid like that.
