Hi All,

In mt last post regarding this issue, I got great advice from some of you so thank you very much...

I am still having issues with my 2005 R3 (bought in June of 04, I thought he bike was considered a 04 but since have been corrected!!)...

Any help / ideas would be great...Below is the chain of events....

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST!!!!

1. With 33k on the odometer, the RPM's would vary between 2k-3k while I was riding or sitting still...

2. After the replies to my post I notified the dealer that it was most likely the TPS sensor...

3. The dealer "re-set' The sensors and the bike was fine for about 1500 miles...

4. The bike started the same problem (and actually started sputtering and stalled out on my on the freeway!) and I went back to the dealer, they "re-set" the sensors again and adjusted the valve bodies as the were not delivering fuel evenly...

5. The bike rode well for 50 miles and the RPM's started sitting at 3k, again...

6. 3rd trip the dealer and the mechanic said a vacuum hose came off and he thinks he fixed it...

7. They kept it, test rode it for a hundred miles and it was fine, I picked it up, rode it 50 miles and RPM's went right up to 3k again...

My last call to the dealer was that we need to get Triumph involved at this point if they cant figure it out...

I live in Los Angeles and have had bad experiences with my local dealers within a 50 mile radius...

Thanks All...

I have had about the same experience with my dealer. Right now, I'm getting ready to setup an old laptop to run TuneECU so I can balance the throttle bodies myself and I'm still thinking I have Primery TPS issue, which I hope to be able to confirm that with the TuneECU software. My Rocket is an early model also, I've had it since new and have over 62,000 miles on it. I love the bike except for this particular problem that won't quite go away!.. :)

Thanks for the quick reply...Unfortunatley im a sub par mechanic at best and need to stick with the dealer!!! Good luck with your bike! If you have a chance, let me know if you remedy works...

Early model TPS sensors were notorious for going out. There's a lot of threads devoted to the "high idle." While my '05 is still behaving it's something I'm watching for and if occurs will replace the TPS with the new iteration (latest generation).;)

dont forget to clean your engine speed sensor.
they are magnetic and tend to collect metal shavings (filings) and can cause this problem.

It's a two minute job to do. Search the threads for a 'how to.' (Or consult the manual).;)

And those old TPS sensors don't hold their settings well. If it has never been replaced it probably needs the new version with the blue innards. If you don't know if it's the original, take a look at it and see what color it is. There are two of them, take a look at both.

I'm starting to have a problem with my gear position sensor, it's doing kinda the same thing as a bad TPS ... it's sending false signals to the GiPro and most likely the ECM as well. Neutral sometimes doesn't register and turn on the neutral light. When that happens it won't run with the kickstand down since it thinks it's in gear. Seeing something like that right in front of you wakes you up to just how a TPS can start to screw up.
