Rocket is not a motorcycle one can ride in shorts

I met a rider at a local bike shop, fellow SDR riders might be fewer and further between than R3 riders, anyhow, I'd gotten my left lower leg & foot crushed when a jeep hit me and he gotten a flat on the hwy and got tossed off the bike going 65. I saw the pics of his road rash and listened to how every night changing the dressing would peel off the new skin and after looking at all the scars he had a year later I walked away kinda relieved i only had dozens of screws, plates, a rod & 4 surgeries to be put back together.

Ride how you want, but sometimes we survive the accident and those times are when you'll be glad you dressed for the occasion. Yea the dude was still riding in a tee shirt & jeans no protective gear and thats his business, but when I see guys riding in flip flops and shorts i cringe. stepping down now.

Pulled over at the scene of an accident years ago in Phoenix. Rider had low sided the bike when a car had turned in front of him at an intersection. He was wearing shorts, a tee shirt and flipflops and no helmet. Cop said he'd have probably walked away but instead ended up with a nasty bump on the head, serious asphalt abrasions, and third degree burns from laying on the pavement in 115+ degree heat. As I got older I quit riding in 110+ weather as the gear was just too uncomfortable. Sometimes we get away with bad choices and sometimes we don't.

I was a firefighter in Yonkers NY for 20 years. We went to accidents a lot. Saw some gruesome stuff... ATGATT for me.

As far as shorts are concerned I did it a few times in the early 80’s as a young man. I wouldn’t do it now. I also went without a helmet a few times riding locally as a youngster. I wouldn’t do that again either. I refuse to dress like a Power Ranger but Kudos to the people that do. I also refuse to tell other people how to ride and what to wear. That said it makes sense to me to wear a helmet with armored jackets along with boots and long pants. That’s just me and my opinion though. Ride how you like. Cheers!

I bet you don't live in Florida.
No, but I have ridden in 110+F and I still have full gear. I won't ride with out the gear. If you are having issues with the heat there are videos on youtube about how guys in the Middle East and Africa handle the extreme heat. They have a lot of good tips.

For me, I think we're all old enough to make our own decisions on what we wear when we ride. Those choices may not coincide with other peoples choices, but we all accept the consequences of our choices. ATGATT, yeah it makes sense, but do I often only partially gear up? hell yeah. For me, riding is freedom, a choice. I don't have a death wish or anything, but I will often ride in less than ATGATT. I make the decision & I live (or die, if it ends that way) & accept the risk. ATGATT does not grant immunity from injury or serious harm, it does mitigate risk in a lot of scenarios, but you're just as vulnerable to a wayward cager as a rider who's only partially geared up. Ride safe, be on the look out & have fun! That's what it's all about.

Absolutely agree. I hate helmet laws and seat belt laws.....in the land of the free.....I moved to a state with no helmet laws. I cringe when I see somebody ripping around without one, but I love that the government isn't making the decision for them.
