Rocket 3 Touring owner wannabe

Hi Folks,

Seriously considering a TR3T for me and the missus. Seen a lovely 2010 model for sale and was amazed with the finish. Since I know very little about these beasts, I was wondering if someone would be good enough to answer a few questions ?? Most of my riding is 2 up and loaded with luggage, tents etc.

Q1 - What are they like to ride 2 up with full luggage and 1 up with no luggage (weight, performance, agility etc...) ?

Q2 - What's the fuel range like when touring ?

Q3 - What's the servicing costs like ?

Currently riding a fully loaded Blackbird but my back can't take it for much longer.

The ride (either 1-up or 2-up) will depend soley on total passenger/cargo weight. On my '08 R3T, 1-up w/o luggage, I have to have the stock shocks set at 5. If I add a bunch of luggage (pillionj and/or luggage), I will bottom out. Understand, I'm not an off-the-rack guy at 6'5" and 350 pounds.

There are a lot of folks who don't like the stock suspension and go to something like Hagon Nitros or Progressive 440s. You will also need to take in your riding style.

Mileage, as stated by idk, is dead on in my experience.

Do the regular maintenance yourself. The schedule is not demanding at 10K per oil change. Count on spending about $75-$100 per oil change. Find a good source for parts and do a lot of reading on this site for how to information.

The secret to this question is replacing the suspension with something that is adjustable and of better quality. I have the Progresive 440 and ride 2 up about half the time and my passenger thinks its great.I have a lot of adjustment left if I want to load up with camping gear.
The stock suspension is barely ok when new but deteriorates after about 15000klms.

Between myself, the missus and full load of luggage I'd be looking about 250Kg's.

How might the bike respond with this kind of load ?

You should have no problem, that is about what we carry for a trip and the R3T has more than enough power to handle it. While I live in Arizona we do a lot of riding in the Rockies. My riding buddies are single but I have to hold back on steeper hills for them to keep up.

Give the stock suspension a try before you spend on new shocks. The R3T has different shocks than the other models and seem to be better suited for use. I have mine set on 3 when its just me or for day trips. I set them on 5 for 2 up touring and they work most of the time. I will replace with something else, but ride is not bad enough to make me change them untill they wear out.

Mileage varies but I plan on 35 - 40 mpg when planing stops.

Cheers Ransom, I'm hoping to visit the shop on Saturday morning for a look and feel.
What sort of miles would you expect to get from a full tank of fuel 2 up touring and taking it easy ?
