Quick tecchy question:

Does the RIII have a direct or indirect fuel injection system? I had assumed it was direct injection, and the injector tube is the symmetric tube to the right of the spark-plug tube.

And what is the threaded hole above the center of the head, into what must be a water cavity? It that for a sensor of some nature? I would have thought the best place for the injector was the center of the head, rather than to one side.

Just interested....

I believe it is throttle body injected. Since the engine has 2 spark plugs and 4 valves per cylinder there would be considerable extra expense for direct injection. The Rocket is a lot of bike for the price. Yes the Rocket could be a lot more than it is, but Triumph built it with a price point in mind so many compromises and omissions had to be made.

@Idaho Red Rocket 3 is correct. Fuel is injected into the throttle bodies. The Rocket does not have direct fuel injection.

Ok first I believe this was a early design or maybe even on the 04 model

Anyway I am not sure what threaded port you were referring to but in the picture above the port circled in Yellow is for the oil pressure sensor. I am not sure about the port in Blue as it is not on the black engines although the boss between them is and is not machined at all. I think this could have been in the original prototype and maybe they wanted to see which port location would fit the frame best. I drop down to the shop today and look and see if it is on the 05 silver engine I have sitting down there.

Twin-spark ! Sorry, I did not know. I am still on the Bonny America, and looking to upgrade. Just finding out about the R-III, because they have just changed the smaller vertical twin, adding water cooling (but not for the America version).

Sorry, I should have circled the threaded port. It is the one in yellow, from the cam-box apparently into the water jacket over the cylinder head. Seems an odd place to have something threaded, which is why I first mistook it for a direct injection port.

Cheers.

Pic of the injection throttle body - you can see the injector (Arrowed)

and on the underside of that bung is just a dimple in the centre of the combustion chamber.
