I remember years ago the condom manufacturer's told us to only use the rubbers(johnies) once that was also BS as I could get at least three shags out of the same one.

Just to be clear, I WAS BEING SARCASTIC but are you saying that there is no difference in the "bead seat diameter and flange contour" of car and bike rims and tyres? Is that what you're saying is crap?

There may be a difference in the bead design but if there is it's slight. I took pictures of my old Metzler and a car tire at Walmart. The pictures don't show any difference but they're not good enough for evidence for or against. My Riken Raptor is recommended for wheel widths of 6-8 inches. That seems like a pretty big tolerance.

This may be the last year for my current darkside. Maybe I'll cut cross sections of the 2 for comparison.

The RMA recommendations are IMO lawyers covering the asses of their clients. And in general I agree. But only to say that with out this recommendation there would have to be a comprehensive study to determine which car tires are acceptable for every application. I wouldn't recommend a studded snow tire for a Yamaha R6 but a lawyer might figure that someone will try it.

why don't you just Man up try a Car tyre so you can know what All Of Us That use them and Love them see in them. No offence Richard but sometimes you sound like some one else except he actually tried one even if he did only use the one tyre that has a Tendency to run on the sidewall so unfortunately his opinions are based on only that one tyre which I might add I to tried but when it started to run on the sidewall I just added Air and solved it but then I didnt like the ride so changed to a different car tyre that works just great and has never even looked like going onto the sidewall even when I intentionlaly droped the pressure down to 24 psi to see if It Would go on to the sidewall, it felt mushy like you would expect an under inflated tyre but DID NOT go on to the sidewall, but I run it at 30 psi normally and love it

why don't you just Man up try a Car tyre so you can know what All Of Us That use them and Love them see in them. I'm not knocking anyone wanting to use a car tyre; never have; but I won't subscribe to there being some sort of conspiracy. I won't put a steering wheel, seat belts, air bags, air conditioning, ash trays or doors on my bike either. Heck, I won't even put a windscreen on it. The simple fact is I don't WANT to put a car tyre on my bike and I won't be goaded into doing so. I'm very happy with what I've chosen to run and frankly don't see that as being unmanly at all. maybe You should and beside Gov bodies also tell us that speed cameras are going to save lives and are not just revenue raisers, the rubber manufactures (no doubt funded by the manufacturers) are trying to save their BIG profit bike tyre area where we have to buy their product at overinflated prices while the same and in some case better technology is used in making the car tyre don't you find it strange that we can achieve same if not better grip with a car tyre and it does not wear any where near as fast

Beat Seat

Many years ago when tubeless tires were invented they had to design what was referred to as a safety rim. There was a ridge installed right behind the bead seat area of the rim. That’s why when you inflate the tire for the first time it pops up over the safety ridge. This is to help stop rapid deflation by trying to keep the tire beads attached to the rim when air is lost.
This is also why you need to “break” the bead loose from the rim when replacing the tire.
The RMA is stating that the bead seat area on the rim is different on bike rims and car rims. So, the bead on the car tire might not fit securely into the bead seat area on the bike rim.
That’s because the bead seats are often larger on car tires. Plus the bead taper is slightly different. Especially if the rim width is not as recommended for the tire installed.
What you need to do to be certain would be to measure the bead width of the tire and then measure the bead seat on the rim to make sure the bead will fit securely in the seat between the rim flange and the safety ridge. If it doesn’t fit…they bead will come loose with low air pressure.
I’ll measure the bead seat on my rim the next time I remove a tire. But, I’m pretty certain the bead is narrower on the bike tire and rim.
