It's attached by three small screws on the underside

Sorry about that. I assumed that the three small screws would release the lens but it just holds the reflector. What kind of engineering is that? I just looked at a spare that I have and I believe that its glued together. Doesn't make much sence does it?

Yeah, the lens part is fused with the body, so if you want to get in there, remove the whole unit from the fender with those before mentioned three bolts and hack at the housing from the backside - make sure you remove bulb socket before surgery. With careful cutting you could fit anything in there so long as you remember that whatever sticks out the unit in back has to go through the fender holes or you'll have to hack the fender too.
