I read a while back that somone else had a oil leak coming from the rear of the motor; mine started that today. I am putting it in for a warranty call, but I was curious what happened to the person who posted a few months ago with the same problem?
Hey BFG,
That was me.... It was a leaking head gasket, and they had to pull it apart and replace it. Mine was in the shop for a month, and I was none to happy about the whole thing (and have since stopped going to Southern California Triumph in Brea. They lost my business because of the incompetent service department). I can deal with some technical issues on this bike... but the way their service department handled it was crap. I was treated as if it was my problem, not theirs.
From doing a little research on it, it seems that this is a problem that has been popping up on the R3T. I just read in one of the magazines that is doing a extended riding test, that it happened on that bike as well.
It will be repaired under warranty, but just make sure that when you take it in, you let them know that you have done your homework, and expect your bike back in a reasonable amount of time.
FYI, I also had an issue with a small electrical fire back in the same area. I think that some time during replacing the head gasket, they pinched the wiring harness, and it started arcing and eventually caught on fire. That was good for another 3 weeks in the shop.... and they F'd with my air horn, and loosened it up and disconnected a couple of wires.... And then Swore to me that they didn't touch it.

Sorry for the rant....

I got a little carried away. After they replace the head gasket, just keep an eye on that area for a while.
