R3T Ignition switch

Baggage1, but remember I am asking specifically about the R3T, not the Standard or Classic versions. I know our versions have had problems with the switch, I was just curious about whether or not the switch on the R3T has been changed to where it is not a problem anymore.

Triumph replaced my R3T switch and locks for intermittent fault. However unknown if fault was the switch or later found faulty connector plugs.
 
Mine could have (probably) failed due to slamming the front wheel down while learning to wheelie the beast.

I know it at least didn't help it any.
 
2005 Rocket 3

I've had problems with a "dry joint" separating behind the switch and complete power failure. Cost me a fortune to get home and collect bike and $A450.00 to have some clown at Northside search forever to finf the problem, only to do a dodgy job and now a few years later drop off again. Phark I hate idiot "mechanics" charging top dollar! This time I'm back to Triumph as this is now a documented problem and hopefully they will come to the party. Anyone else had these problems?

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET THE SWITCH OFF? I'VE PULLED THE FRONT END TO BITS AND IT'S NOT IN THE MANUAL AND LOOKS LIKE I HAVE TO TAKE OFF THE TOP TRIPLE-CLAMP TO ACCESS THE SWITCH. ANY QUICK HELPERS HERE?

Triumphs do that for some odd reason. Humility lessons? Mine crapped out in front of three Victory riders in a gas station parking lot where they could walk over grinning asking if I was OK. There is a reason I do not carry concealed.
 

It has snap off security bolts one each side, they are usually loose and if you are good you can find a small socket to undo them with some upward pressure. My advice to you is to just remove the bottom part of the switch and resolder it, that part is only held on with plastic clips just be careful not to break the plastic. You will need the headlight relays before you do otherwise it will blow again.
 
I have not had any issues to date with mine,
D**nit! I just jinxed myself!
 
15,000 miles, no ignition switch problems, but I have had to replace a relay for the ignition system on a very hot day.
