Last night, after working on an upgrade in the Photo Album, the server's hardrive experienced a failure and shutdown all services.

After a couple hours, the drive was working again but things were "too far gone" to rely on it. So my team spent the rest of the night replacing the drive and reloading the operating system. My particular OS went through a major release change earlier this week (timing), which created additional configuration delays that weren't resolved until noon CST.

Ironically, after all of that pain, the actual backup restoration took only five minutes.

The site was restored to the state it was at early AM May 21st.

Thanks for your patience.

Good work, guys, I'm glad it's back up. I was afraid that the server had gotten too close to the intake on Hombre's IC supercharger and had gotten sucked in. I'm glad that wasn't the case. Thanks again for the hard work.

I had thought that , all along, the forum had only existed in my imagination. I even had thought that my imagination was the harbinger of a great, spooky novel I ought to write, à la Douglas Kennedy or Paul Auster, to mention two of my favorite, contemporary American writers.

So it was merely "gone and restored in 5 minutes". What a disappointment:eek:.

I was worried, I went groveling to that other sight to see what people knew of your absence. Its good to be home again.

Looks like we lost the posts from yesterday... at least mine and Brembo's. :(

Yes, posts were lost from the previous day. The failure happened just before the scheduled 24-hour backup session could take place. My server goes through three different backup routines in a 24-hour period, each designed to support a particular type of failure or issue. The route I chose to restore with was the quickest way given this situation.
