R3 tires

I contacted Metz and let them know that we aren't happy with their tires.

What I wrote them:

Message: Hello All you have to do is read this forum and you will realize that Bridgestone and Avon are winning the battle. I do not get any mileage out of Metz as well as having handling issues and fixing to go with something different myself. I ride a 2010 Triumph Rocket III Roadster. Just trying to let you guys know that I would love to see some better tires out of your company for the Roadster and R3 motorcycles. thanks

Marland

What they replied:

Hello

Thank you for the comments and in case you did not know the new ME888 (Triple 8) was introduced with 10 new blackwall sizes in 2013, and we expect to follow this trend for next year and the following years. So we can confirm we will bring the most popular sizes to the market in a structured release over the next few years and slowly phase out those same ME880 sizes. In regards to the Triumph sizes we will continue with the ME880 for the immediate future. Thanks for the e-mail and have a great day.

So what are they saying? It will be years from now until we will see ME888 tires for the Roadster..... namely the rear tire 240/50/16?
These tires are supposed to get way bette mileage than the 880

And Do you believe it seeing as they said the ME880 was designed for the Rocket, excuse me while I barff

Ask Tomcat about Metzler, the man was put through the ringer as they were going to donate to our auction 2012, ended up getting sweat F A, tomcat got way more patience than I got.

Help & Information

Good point..

Mate I can tell you first hand, I have asked some dome question, some very simple questions, about my rocket from top to bottom.

What some of the men and no doubt woman don't know on here is worth trying to find out. 1000's posts on tyres, fuel economy, seat, handle bars, you name it it's been discussed and sorted from a collective knowledge all over. Even got a Aussie Triumph mechanic on here but want tell his name, but does admit found a few things out himself, especially with modifications.

I could write a good speech for Metzler, don't even think I would tone it down.

I agree, even though I got 9500 miles on the original tire. At the end it did not handle well. What's more, I inspected the tire before riding that showed tread with grooves, after 60 miles cords showing through That tire went bald in a hurry.
Went with Bridgestone and increased the rear tire from a 180 to 200. Rides great so far. Let's see how long it lasts.

Tyre discussions make me want to pull my hair out!:flame:
I am currently looking at putting avons on front and back to replace my Metz... The Bridgestone idea seems to be what is all the hype here.. I am just a tad concerned with putting a taller tyre on and changing the dynamics on the bike itself. Although all say it makes for a better ride...ect... I just cant get the gonads to do it. I never really liked the Metz. I hate these decisions!!!! Motorcycle tires maniac has set of avons with for $461 with shipping... Any experience with this company/website???

There are a lot of people on here running Excedra Max's. I can't say I've heard one complaint. If anyone has just cause why this man and tire should not be joined in riding bliss, speak now or forever hold your peace !

If you got plenty of money to spend and you don't mind getting half the mileage us people using exedra max rear tyres get theres no reall difference between the Avon or the Metz rear tyre maybe the Avon might wear a little better all three tyres handle much the same ,that's my opinion

Which ever way you go on the rear, Avon on the front is a real good choice. I liked it on the rear too. Better mileage than Metz and better grip except in the wet. They were pretty even then. Bridgestone is simply better all round and cheaper to boot. The higher profile only changes things for the better - even corrects your speedo. Keep your hair, just do it.
