When I'm going slow holding a steady throttle I've started noticing a pop occaisionally, like a backfire in the exhaust and causes a short stop in power when it happens. I have the Cat converter removed with the add on manafold and retuned to match. (all done at the dealer when I bought it new). Could it be a little to rich and reigniting in the exhaust? May have to have it retuned at the dealer.

I'll be nice,
Its actually fairly normal, it probably popped before when you had the cat box but you didn't notice it. now that you have the bypass its more prevalant.

it especially pops when you shut off the throttle and coast to a stop.

running the triumph tune may help some, but ultimate solution is a power commander or a tuneboy with a better map programmed into teh bike.

with a stock bike, I'd make my dealer load the Triumph tune and see how it goes from there,
also do a search you will see lots of poeple talking about popping

alselec ,
REG's probably right :!:
It always helps to know more about the bike
when your stating a problem .
How many miles are on it , what yr model
it is , mods done etc , my first thought
until reading reg's reply . Was maybe fouled plug
stumble in power .Maybe 25,000 miles on bike ,
"(all done at the dealer when I bought it new). "
Being retired mechanic 10 things jumped in my head
instantly
I need to work on that I'm retired

guess I did over simplify...

I'm thinking this occured immediately after the cat bypass and retune.

and it depends on how severe the popping is. ( well and the stumbling)

double check that the O2 sensor is tight and the cat bypass is tight as well but If the dealer recently installed this then its his responsibility to make it right in my opinion.

If I do a mod and screw it up its on me and I'm sure the dealer will punish me with the bill, but if they don't get it right then I'm pretty demanding.

My jardines popped like a SOB until I got the tuneboy and retuned the bike

No, the cat bypass was on it when I got it new. It always had that small several kinda poppyty pop while decreasing, thats not it. This has one pop maybe 2 and the engine stops for that second it pops. It didn't do that before. I have about 1800 miles on it. Actually it sounds more like a one pop backfire, and it does it at a slow constant speed, not decellerating.
Noticed this when the weather got cooler.

ahh the backfire
some have experinced this severely, I've actually had it do it once and stall but other wise mine runs great.

I think triumph has some technical bulletins out that cover idle and backfire. I suggest you have the dealer do a once over, check that your 02 sensor is correct and that all the sensors read properly and such on there computer.

hate to have the bike stall on you in traffic... the tech I talked to last asked me if mine stalled or idled funny and said he had one on the bench that they were replacing ecu and TB's and such to see if it fixed it.

best of luck, make sure you be safe and get to a decent dealer...

Sounds good, I'll see if it does it anymore and take it in if it does.
Thanks,
