Hey guys,
My new R3R will be arriving this week and of course given the crappy weather in NJ, it will be sitting in the garage for a while.
Do the new R3 have a standard lead acid or a Lithium battery. Want to order a battery tender and wondering whether just to get the Battery Tender Jr (standard), or the one for Lithium batteries.
Thanks

Hello, I think the battery is lead, but for a while without use a little maintenance every month would be enough

I use the Tender Jr on my Rocket and my Vette. The battery on the vette lasted 6 years using the Jr. Small and simple

Thank you F6C and biker1059. I use a Battery tender for my Indian and it works great, but wasn't sure whether I can use the same for the R3 or one for a Lithium battery.

Hello @Zutt, the new bikes do NOT have those POS Lithium batteries thankfully. Lithium motorcycle batteries are crap below 40*F. So, like the other have said, what you currently have for a tender should be fine.

Good luck on your new bike and do let us know of any issues that come up. You are in a unique area where salt air wafts in at time and that causes issues as I have found on my 2014 where I am in Northern Virginia.

Similarly to my ex-Indian, I keep on using the same Optimate 3 and non-stop. But I realise there are 2 schools : the one in favour of keeping it connected around the clock and the other only punctually (once a week max). Have asked for the opinion from the dealer : 1 mechanic recommands the first approach while the other the second one ! (so I conclude that both approaches are fine - same comment from my ex-Indian dealer).
