Yeah, I think that's it, very expensive. Is that what was originally used on yours or is it just the touring? What can I use, got a brand/type?

Brands of oil will get you into a very long debate on any forum.

According to the R3 service manual, it states that the oil specification for this motor is 10W-40 or 15W-50 that is API SH (or higher) AND JASO MA that is either a full synthetic OR a blend.

A lot people think the JASO MA spec is crap, it's debatable....

Pretty much any synthetic motorcycle oil that is 10W-40 is gonna run you around $10/quart.

The stuff I'm running now is Lucas Semi 10W-40 which I picked up for about $5/quart.

Some guys, like wingers, run diesel oils.

Ok, it's gotta be the same oil requirements for all the rockets...thanks for the tips...I definitely don't want to take any chances w/ the wrong oil, but if it's all the same, 1/2 price is pretty good. I assume it runs the same.

Well, it's not the same.

The stuff I just put in meets the API spec, but it is not JASO MA.

JASO MA requires that there be less than 1.2% ash content (I think).

This is the "friction additive" everyone will tell you about that is special with motorcycle oil.

Of course there's the always popular Amsoil. More expensive than Jugg's Lucas, but cheaper than the Mobil 1 4T from your dealer. And it meets the spec requirements.

Here's a link to an Amsoil published test of Motorcycle oils. I've posted it a few times, its quite long, and again published by Amsoil.

Disclaimer: Yes, I'm an Amsoil dealer.

You seem to know your oil! I think I've learned enough for now, but I'll browse it...

I see. So, what do you use or does that vary?
