josey u know the dress code here in the south is sunglasses no shirt shorts and flip flop :D:D:D

Josey, you've seen my jacket...it's a Power Trip, ballistic nylon shell front that zips of to reveal mesh front (chest and front of arms) with leather back side (back/shoulders/back side of arms) Removeable windproof/waterproof inner liner. It's the only jacket I've ever owned and is what I was wearing when I crashed my first Rocket. Jacket was ruined, but no road for me. Kevlar-reinforced riding jeans. Full leather gloves. Helmet is full face always 'cause you just never know...

Let me tell you guys a secret!!
Want to know the best place to buy gear? PAWN SHOPS!
I bought my and my wifes triumph jackets for $60 both,my honda jacket for 35 leather jacket and chaps for 40, everything is like new, had the wife wash it and they are ready to go, those are the jackets that i will be taking to MV, you guys will see that they are like new,,
My helmets on the other hand have to be like my women, they have to be new :D

I'm firmly of the belief that you start from the top and work your way down. Most important thing to protect is your noggin' so I always wear a full face helmet - Shoei RF-1000 right now.

I have leather and textile jackets. I think that a nice heavy leather is still the best protection compared to any textile out there. If you're concerned about the heat get a perforated leather jacket which breathes great. I'm using the Icon Accelerant Perforated jacket right now. As well, I have 1 of those vests you can soak in water that someone else mentioned up above for when it really hots up. Used it when I went through Hells Canyon last summer and worked great.

For the legs I have denim riding pants which are made from a very heavy denim with knee pads as well as vented textile pants from Joe Rocket which also have a water proof lining if things get wet. I have my eyes on some leather pants as well.

For down below, I wear Dayton riding boots which come up to the calf and are famous up here in Vancouver and are made locally. Takes a while to break them in but absolutely great boots once they soften up. Also - perforated leather gloves.

Actually - my next purchase to round everything off is armor similar to what TRath has. The CE back protectors that come in most every jacket are completely useless.

And there you have it folks. Local delaer has 15% off everything today if you're wearing green. Guess where I'll be this afternoon.

Yeah, I know. Already seen the shorts and flip flops here this season:rolleyes:. Dealer having a ride here Sunday about an hour out to lunch then back. I'll be riding Dark.:)

In reading the write up by Dan Diego, I am wondering what protective gear is the gear of choice especially for hot summer riding.

Very timely post, Josey.

I was wearing a Joe Rocket Carbon Fibre full faced helmet and Triumph mesh jacket. Kevlar reinforced gloves, Sidi Canyon boots and bluejeans completed the riding outfit that day. Everything held up as good or better than I'd hoped (see photos). Helmet's going in the trash, though my jacket can be sewn up.

I am now looking for some lightweight kevlar mesh jeans or riding pants.

I have a few helmets, jackets, boots and gloves (leather, cordura, etc.) and rarely ride without full protective gear. This little mishap reminded me to wear ATGATT.

It was based upon your recent experience and my aging body that does not bounce back like it did when I was 20 and laid my Bonneville down to prevent eating the rear end of a car that did not see me and pulled out. I was mad about the bike, road rash healed quickly using old red methiolate. That doesn't work that well anymore, I am just a little bit shy of dropping at my (our) ages cause a lot of us are seasoned citizens. If I were still twenty and owned a Rocket III I would be on work release .
