On a carbureted Engine you definitely need to keep the water out as water sinks to the bottom of the float bowl and will effectively block the main jet.
But on an injected Engine, I would think that water going straight down it's throat wouldn't be a problem.
Water is injected into high performance Engines for a few different reasons.
A) it cools.
B) it raises the compression.
C) the "O" in H2O aids combustion.
I believe the Ram Air Filter is similar to the K&N in that it is cleanable and uses an oil if I am correct. I clean my filters around 3000 miles or if I see that they are becoming gray or dirty. It depends on the time of year too. In the spring with heavy pollen I will clean them a few times. During the summer months it is a lot less and then back to the fall when pollen becomes and issue you again. If you live on a dirt road the frequency will go up as well. So its a lot of basic stuff like this that drives the the need for cleaning. I buy the K&N oil by the gallon as everything we own has a K&N in it.
I have never had an issue when stuck in moderate to heavy rain with the K & N's. I do not use a rain cover or prefilter, I just keep them clean and oiled properly.
Well, Outerwears got back with me on my offer & did not accept.... $15 for a "design fee" when I provided all of the measurements? & $5 to ship something equivalent to ladies stockings???? Eff that
Well, that's really why i posted this is to make sure they work as advertised/are they worth it. it's not the $15 extra, it's the $51.45 total..... 1/2 the price of the RamAir system that comes with c/c filter & IAT wire extension......
So, do you recommend them, even at $52?
For general road use..Save your money for better things or use your partner's old or not so old pantyhose - remember they are just a sock too afterall, and I gather your not using them already for a life of crime! .
Aren't they also intended to keep the filter cleaner in off road situations reducing filter re-oiling etc? Also they stop grass seeds and debris working their way into filter foam.
I've been running K&N pre filters on my K&N's for about 5 yrs now. Never thought about using them to keep the rain out. Just thought the pre filters would keep a majority of the dust, dirt, etc... out of the filters. I clean and recharge the filters once a year and they aren't terribly dirty when I do so.
