Position light bulb?

Quick question guys. What purposes that tiny little position lightbulb serve? It sure doesn't look like it throws off much light.

Mine doesn't fit in the headlight shell since installing the LED headlight, so it just hangs, and is a kind of indication the power is on.
 
Mine still works with my LED kit, but to be sure, I've never used the parking light feature!

Ah, it's real purpose is to flatten the battery if you turn the key past the lock position, brilliant right!!!!!!
