Picture worth veiwing

Any motorcyclist needs to stay the hell away from trucks. The fact that they can't see you is one thing, the fact that they're prone to kicking up road debris at you or throwing a "road gator" at your face is a much bigger issue.

Though I have to wonder why it's not mandatory for trucks to have better rear/side vision systems. Cameras, for instance.
Silly thing is ive found most truck drivers are more aware of whats going on around them on the road more so than the ***witts driving their cars while playing with their phones updating their facebook and thinking about what theyre going to eat for dinner , never had a truck pull out in front of me yet , wish i could say the same for dumbass car drivers.
75% of the truck drivers that go through the fuel transfer terminal where i work own and regualary ride their bikes ( unfortunately most own Harleys ) , my hat goes off to truck drivers for the long hours and almost forgotten job they do day in and day out.

As a trucker with 38 years behind the wheel I was pretty aware of what was around me. Aside from the a$$es in cars you wouldnt believe just how many stupid moves motorcyclists make around a truck. You would think that the worst offenders were ****** rocket riders. They were pretty bad but my #1 worst experiences were the ones on the DP bikes. I had many of them cut right in front of my truck, loaded down with luggage and using no signals whatsoever. At least the Hardley riders kept their distance.

In that picture that was posted you would only be able to see the one HD on the tight right side of the rig if you were using only the mirrors.

I agree big dog as on my truck I always had that spotter mirror where I could see any vechile of any description up to to the spotter which I placed at the bottom of my rear vision mirrors.

I forgot to mention that bike out front .you shouldn't be driving a truck if you were driving that close to any vechile .I always made sure there was plenty of room between vechiles as often a vehicle would move into the space I made .one important thing you have to have as a truck driver is PATIENCE

Patience is why I survived for 38 years in a truck. Now as far as the bike in the front......2 wheels @ 800 lbs vs truck/18 wheels @ 60,000 lbs. Lets do the short arithmetic......

My abacus says you'd spend the next month picking the bike out of the truck's tyre tread.

That is exactly right, I have only never met one Truckie that didnt ride a bike except one that was because he lost a brother to a tintop while riding and he witnessed it, couldn't get back on after that but still a good bloke, also found that most Tuckies will give a nod even had one last year that warned me (flashed his lights and pointed up to the left while I was going past him at 140kmh on the Hume-adrone Hwy) of a copper hiding up on top of a cutting up the road, he would no doubt have been warned by CB radio

But I will say this, in this age of transparency.....after 38 years behind the wheel I accepted a transportation supervisors job at the USPS about 2 months ago so now I get to move 30 trucks all over the city on my shift. I also have quite a few drivers who ride as well. And I get to widen my fat arse in the process.....:whitstling:

The visibility from the drivers seat to the rear of the truck has been good .the blind spots are mainly from below the mirrors up near the cabin . Reversing cameras are handy but the most important cameras is the camera in the cabin taping the idiot cage drivers doing crazy things ..as far as the debris on the road if people stopped tossing rubbish out the windows of there cars and people secured there loads on there utes theres a good chance most of the crap wouldn't be on the road. The police now pull every ute with equipment on the back which is not secured and fine them .driving up and down the m1 hi-way between the gold coast and Brisbane it was almost a daily event when there were ladders or trade men's tools scattered on this road. Now they have to have a net over all there tools .the improvement was noticed almost straight after this procedure was put in place.

You have brought forth a good point that has made me curious.
What approximate percent of OZ truckers run in cab video while they operate?
A good idea, I would reckon!
