PART No T3880068 Cam Chain Tensioner Gauge

Thanks for providing the dimensions. If a fellow found he needed the spacer does anyone have the dimensions for that ? What are the spacers made out of ? Does anyone think this would help the cold start paint can rattle ? Thanks again !

Ok from reading Daves dimensions and the manual directions I can tell you how it works and how to measure with a dial caliper and see if it is time for the spacer or if the casting is longer and you need the spacer even with a new chain. This can be from machining toelerances as they sometime add up to somthing wrong. say the faced part of the engine bock if it is at the maximum heigth from the center lin of the crank shaft and the face on the back side of the tensioner is at it longest tolerance and the outside face where the ceter nut goes into is at it maximum tolerance this moves the plunger away from the cam chain guides. ( this si the tolerance build up to something that is crap) I always told my students that tolerances can add up to something not working quite right or for the duration planned. anyway the gauge is place in the tensioner and if it bottoms out you need a spacer if it does not you don't. This is covered on page 3.9 of the new manuals older ones like the 06 manual do not have this. so translated if from the face of the tensoiner body to the face ogf the plunger is 16 mm (.6299") deep or more you need the spacer. If it is less you do not need one. If memory sreves me corectly the plug thick ness was avout 1/2 inch and the diameter is 9 MM you can do four things. first buy the plug from Triumph, second cut a plug from a 3/8 or 9mm bolt about 3/8 to 1/2 inch long, 3rd stretch the spring out 3/8 pmm longer to eliminate the need for the spacer. 4th buy the manual cam chain tensioner as discribed by Wayne :)
