I'm seriously thinking about painting my bike to a matte black next winter. I bought it used and love it but now that there are a few chips and scratches in the tank, I'm considering a paint job. Anybody care to share cost of a full paint job from previous experience?

I'm thinking I can take all the parts off myself and deliver them to a shop and I also have beetle bags I'd get done.

Does the matte show scratches as easily as the phantom?

What colour is it now ? Maybe worth seeing if anyone interested in swapping tins like I just did .. few dings and scratches are actually just character ..hahaha

Calling ..Wetrudgeon .. paintjob swap maybe mate ;)

My bike was phantom black when I bought it new. The dealership couldn't find me a matte black no matter how hard they tried. After a short period of time I removed the tank, fender, mud guard etc... and took the parts to my painter that I have dealt with before. He got the Triumph paint number somehow and added a special hardener that will not allow the paint to gloss over. He charged me $300 in which later I gave him a $50 tip.

@mully95
They sure work cheap there in SC!!!
I have had two bikes done in as many years. The V2K paint in my gallery cost me $800.
If only tank, fenders and side covers, I would expect about $750 for a Matte Black simple one color job or a $1000 for something more fancy. Graphic work = more.

Mine is Phantom black now. I like the look of the matte though. I was expecting at least a $1000 for a complete paint job including the bags. I don't think I'd get someone to do it for $300!

it all depends on the amount of work.. sanded or not primed or not I think just turning over the tin unprepared would run around $1100 for single color no artwork nor stripes just one color.

Duke,
The new paint I be riding to Montrose cost me $900. All I did was remove the tin and drop it off at the painter's in Tri Cities, WA. You'll be seeing it when we meet up at Nampa, Amigo.

Maybe send Wetrudgeon (Dan) a PM .. he may be keen on a swap .. $300 for a full paintjob is a graet price .. cost me more than that just for the tank.

Chips will need to be sanded filled in an primed. Everything thing else sanded, 2 black base coats, followed by 2-3 coats of clear with special hardner to keep it from glossing over. 2-3 days work if you add bags you are looking at $1000-$1200.

All I can say is in m state they must be ripping us off 2500 up for a paint job and thats no work if theres chips or anything thats why I did my last one I have about 850 in supplys and I did all the work and painted it
