Ol'Man needs help

LOL....I got good socks older than most of you here:p My mind think I am still young, my body tells me otherwise. I was married with children when they nagged me to buy a thing called a Commador 64:eek: I have hated puters ever since

Hanso
I have a

How do you open a HEX file.

Without getting tons of junk added to the computer..

K&Ns are installed.
You open it with the TuneECU software....
step 1 save to TuneECU Tune file
step 2 open TuneECU software
step 3 use "open tune" fuction in Menu- which will open a browser direct it to the Tune folder you saved it in select the tune and just follow the prompts till it is showing on the TuneECU screen the the name of file should be in the bar along bottom bar of TuneECU screen

If this the first Time, there is a step you should folow before performing the last post, save the tune in your ECU as follows
Now while connected to your bike ignition on (headlight fuse removed) and green light showing you are connected you will then need to go the "ECU" menu and select "Read Map" this will take a few minutes so it a good idea to have power connected to Computor and trickle charger on bike (The first time takes some time later you find things are faster)
once you have the bikes tune on screen select "Save Map File"( under the "File"menu and in the process change the name but do not change the .hex on the end of it.
once this is done you can open the tune I sent and you have saved and download it, the "download" tab will be at top of screen, again this will take a while, once done follow the "Reset Adaption" process in the ECU menu
and you are done

that part sounds simple enough.
How about telling us what the "F" and "I" tables are for,
how and why we'd change anything in there,
and how to make an engine light go out.
The "diagnostics" end of it.

You see Hanso, I'm trying to get all this in a coherent format.
A "step by step" tutorial, to post up, maybe as a sticky
for EVERYBODY to use in the future,
without having to have somebody lead us by the hand
through this time after time.
a "users guide" for the novices.
ANY help would be appreciated....
I know you and Warp and Wayne understand this all thoroughly,
the rest of us, to one degree or another, follow but I'd like to understand it,
as I'm sure lots of others would as well.
what you posted made sense,
What Scott told me on the phone, made sense too,
but having it in a concise layout would make it UNDERSTANDABLE.
Right now it all seems like "white man's magic" to me.......;)

This might be of some value, I typed it up when I went to Paul house, a site usuer when he was in strife with his ecu.
I cant guarentee its 100% correct but maybe the people on this site can correct it if necessary.
It worked ok for me at the time.

1 – Have your PC opened in the Tune Ecu program
2 – Connect the cable to the bike via the plug under the seat near the battery, the plug with glow .
3 – Connect the cable to a USB port on the PC
4 – Turn the ignition on , you can pull out the headlight fuse to prevent the head light power drain while the down load function takes place.
5 – A small box on the bottom right of the screen should be flashing red, to yellow to green confirming the computer and the bike ECU are connected.
6 – Open the map you wish to load into the bikes ECU, you should have saved the map in the bike in case you need it in the future.
7 - Click on the ECU box, left to corner of the screen, click on download in the drop down box.
8 – A box in the centre of the screen will ask you to confirm the download process, click ok.
9 – As soon as you have clicked ok you will see the bar on the bottom of the screen indicated the percentage of the map being loaded into the bikes ECU until it reaches 100% then the bar will be green.
10 – When 100% is completed a box will appear to confirm, click ok.
11 – Now the TPS has to be reset, turn the ignition off and straight back on, leave on for 10 seconds then turn off and back on.
12 – Go back into the ECU box and click RESET ADAPTION, you will hear the reset process happening on the bike.
13 – The TPS box on the bottom left area of the screen will now be white
14 – Refit the headlight fuse and start the bike, let the bike idle until the TPS box turns green, this can be a few minutes.
15 – The map load is now complete, time for a ride.

I have read that the 12 minute tune should be carried out after a map load, this is up to the you.

Pretty well spot on but I never do the 12 min tune because that is what the Reseting Adaptives (TPS) does and after you have ridden the bike for 15 or so min's it will do the same

To keep it simple "I" is for ignition, "F" is your main Fuel table and the "L" table is LowFuel Table as in Low Throttle.
To adjust any of these values you need two things ... 1 a dyno so you can identifie the problem areas and 2 you have to understand how and how much changes affect things in these areas, are things you can not teach on line you would need to be with someone who is making changes to explain why these changes are being made. fuel injection is more complex but more flexable. Once you how to identfie the areas that need changing as this can depend on Throttle Position, RPM and what efect you are trying to get at any given point.
With out a dyno it would be all guess work!!
This is why I alway suggest and Base tune with TuneECU and then fine tune it with either a Dobeck or better still a PCV with AT and my AFR table which is structured to give best fuel economy while using a lite throttle and then as you become it feeds more fuel to gain Good Power
Hope this helps some of you

Just when this stuff starts to make sense it turns into gobbledigook all over again.
Plus I got distracted when someone mentioned chips.......
