Oil tank empty after layup

Mike, drain the oil then refill the tank with it.

Or, you could do, what I did, BEFORE I discovered what was happening, and fill the oil tank, start the bike, and watch all the oil puke out the top of the tank! Older Harleys have done it for years. The oil is in the crankcase, it ain't going to hurt a thing, to start it up. Old time bikers will say it's not a problem, problem is you ain't riding enough!

Yep....Harley's do this too if they set long enough....the oil ain't gone, it just did what gravity demanded!

I use fogging oil on my Roadking and the Rocket. You might want to spray some of this into the air intake if your that concerned.

You are correct. I ain't riding the bike enough. Trouble is this is my first R3 and I am only just finding out the little quirks of it. I use my Road King for the cold season as it's a better protected ride with the screen. The Harley is better built than the rocket and I think stands up to the weather better!

Dont put any oil in the tank before start up as when the scavange side puts it back to the tank it will blow the top off and will be a right mess....As long as your oil light goes out you will be fine, its not lack of oil its lack of pressure that kills motors and as long as you have the pressure till the tank fills up you,ll be fine

Thanks Joesoap. I am feeling more confident about all this now. It seems it's not the big problem I was thinking it is.
