Oil level: Sidestand vs. Upright

Just checked the oil level on my new Rocket--reads full when on sidestand, but doesn't seem to even show on dipstick when upright. I had thought, like most bikes I've owned, level should be checked with bike upright and the owner's manual confirms this. Bike only has about 240 miles on it, and seems extremely unlikely that the engine "used" the oil... In which case, the technician(s) who set up bike at dealership is pretty ****ed ignorant. Any one have any idea about how low the oil actually is given conditions described?

Also, I'm not real familiar with dry sump systems, are they more or less sensitive to low oil condition? I don't even know what oil the dealership used, so I don't know what to add and of course they're closed Sunday and Monday... Trying to decide if I'd better park it in the mean time.

stand

euro style stand on sell on ebay. seller indicates the bolts fit the "jig holes" on bottom rear of frame. getting motor/bike on level should have lots of benefits. we'll see.--john
