oil level and after oil change

Could someone post some info on this .

Had my 500 mile service 2 weeks ago which included oil change .

Done 200 miles since , so yesterday checked my oil for the first time since that .
Bike had not been run for a day so totally cold .

Anyway nothing showing on dipstick !! i must of added at least half a litre or a pint to bring the oil to top level on dipstick with the bike upright .
Anyway started bike and let it run for 5 minutes +
When hot the level must of been an inch higher than top mark .
A couple of hours later with bike cold!! the level was about a cm higher than full mark .
Today cold the level is on the minimum !!
My question is that if it takes a whole night to align for a proper reading !! then how can the dealer get it perfect in a service sheldule ??

Some dealers can't read! I put 5 quarts in after an oil and filter change I did myself. Then I rode the bike for thirty minutes to get it hot and came home and checked it and found it when hot to be half a quart low. I added half a quart to a total of five and 1/2 quarts, with the filter! When I check the oil when it's cold, I actually am only seeing if there is oil on the dipstick, then I recheck it when it has run awhile for the proper level.

Snowyrock - YOUVE OVERFILLED IT......... :shock:

The dipstick should only be checked after the bikes been tickin over for a few minutes. In a dry sump system the oil needs to be pumped back up into the oil tank first. That’s why after you’d ridden a few miles it was way over the top mark, and again why it was just on the lower mark when cold……

At the shop they would completely drain the old oil out and just measure the oil as they put it in, so no need to go by the dipstick…….

Id drain off some of that extra oil.....

We all should have read the user's manual before checking our oil! lol

If it's cold, at least let it idle for 2 minutes it says.
Also check the dipstick with the bike level (not on side stand).

I rarely check my oil, doesn't take any. I think most of the Rockets don't.
