fitting stebel horn behind side panel, tool out K+N air filter so i could drill a couple of holes through the airbox to route a cable tie to secure the bottom of the stebel, bugger me there's about half a cup of oil in the bottom of the box, looks like engine oil! anybody any idea's :? do i need to worry? :(

Good chance it is from the K&N filter itself....... your supposed to clean and re-oil them every-so-often..... maybe just got too much on it or to much from the factory if it is a new one.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the crankcase vent into the airbox?

Having some oil in there may be perfectly normal.

Breather from gearbox would enter the air box on conventional motors - so it burns up emissions and nasty gasses etc but this 'aint your conventional engine

Do you think you added too much oil at some stage and it's been thrown out the breather pipe into your air box... :?

Hope you find the problem Boski.

Thanks for the replies, had a good look round the airbox, could'nt see any signs that its been any where other than the bottom of the airbox! did'nt know they oiled the K+N, did'nt see any evidence of that when i fitted it? i'll keep a beady eye on the airbox from now on  and thanks again.
