Oil Change

I just brought my R3 to a dealer here in New Jersey for an oil change and filter replacement. Just didn't want to do with the needed crush washers, etc.
The cost $200!! About the same as my Mercedes! How ridiculous is this??

Despite what the manual says, the crush washers are reusable.
I've reused them 3 times so far.
Next time, do it yourself.

What TeeDee said. The washers are reusable and anyway replacements are only about $3 (and easy to fit).

doitcherself for around $70 (assuming 6 liters of Mobil 1 4T).

You forget shop hourly pricing? They also make money on the oil and the filter. Bet you paid about $18.00 for your $6.00 filter and likely $100.00 for your $70.00 worth of oil so then they charged about $85.00 labor for one hour (likely the minimum charge) for a 20 minute job. Don't blame the dealer, they are in it for the profit. Blame yourself for being to timid to DIY. I just did mine a couple of months ago. I think I'm into it about $50.00 for the fancy oil and about 20-30 minutes of my time.

You can re-use the washers ...

Live and learn. I agree that $200 is outrageous for an oil change.

Yes, I finally bought the tools and filter element and used my marine oil changer (5 gal bucket, w/12v pump, & sump line) to do my own (plus they always seemed to find something in addition to the oil change - Bast@rds!). But I digress, I dumped the Benz last year.

I did change my oil on the R3 just today: 5 1/2 qts of Mobil 4T Racing Synthentic ($70), $19.95 for Triumph Filter (I have the chrome cover) and Crush Washers (2 for the sump plugs and 1 for the main drain - which is a different size than the sumps) from the dealer. An 8mm Allen Socket on the end of Torque wrench (to 25nm) and about a 1/2 hour of my time and: Voila! I reused the crush washers last oil change, thought it safer to replace them this time around. Easy to do - something to think about for next time.

You can reuse the chrome cover on a $12.00 Mobil M-108 filter too.
