If you fill the filter one time to the threads and let it sit, the filter media will soak up the oil. That's all you need to do.

Well, it kind of makes sense...but I've never done that to a filter in my life. I'm sure they do that at the dealership all the time as well...

I have to do the same thing with my lawn tractor; not much mess at all.
