Interested to know if anyone has experienced an oil leak similar to mine described below:
After buying the bike new and putting a couple of hundred miles on the odo I decided to install mid controls. My Triumph dealer did the swap and when I picked up the bike I noticed a small drizzle of oil towards the bottom front RH side of the engine. The mechanic said he noticed a few drips of oil come from one of the bolt holes that had been used for the forward controls. He thought it might be some oil that was behind the bolt from when the bike was assembled at the factory.
I put another 100 mile ride on the bike and noticed oil streaking, from where we had originally seen the oil smear, towards the rear of the bottom of the engine casing - pics below. I cleaned it up as it was difficult to see exactly from where it was originating. Back to the dealership where they thoroughly cleaned it and then sprayed leak detection powder on the front bottom of the engine casing. I then rode the bike for a few miles before returning to the dealership. We found the leak coming from the now unused bolt hole where a forward controls mounting bolt had been. It wasn’t gushing out, but must have been a steady trickle under load. The simple remedy was to put a bolt with a crush washer into the bolt hole. Today I completed a 150 mile ride and it is as dry as a bone so no more oil leaking. I googled this, and could find several other examples of oil leaking from different locations e.g. gear linkage, but none the same as my issue. My guess is that this may be the result from assembly at the factory? I think the fix is good and I am not concerned unless someone here thinks I should be about any potential future issues I may run into as a result of this.
