No speedo

Just getting the R3 standard out of the shop. Only one problem need help with before she goes on the dyno tomorrow.

When the ignition is turned on, the tach and speedo do not sweep. It starts just fine and a couple of seconds, the tach sweeps but not the speedometer. There is no display on the speedometer and it does not function.

Any input would be appreciated. It has us stumped.

could be low voltage ** maybe check voltage across the fuses while running.
while on dyno might check computer to see if you have a vss signal (vehicle speed sensor signal) done with scanner or tune ecu.
might look at vss located under the bike at rear of engine. sensors or wires may have been damaged if some was working on it or something like that.

I remember back reading most speedo problems have been with the speedometer itself (non serviceable). Check the electrical connectors under the tank and add some di-electric grease while your at it. I lost the speedo on my RK it ended up being a dirty sensor, pulled it out cleaned it back in business.

hook you ecu software up to the bugger and run a test then go from there. This way you know the ecu is sending a signal to move them before starting the bike.

ironically my tach has started not sweeping at start up, if it doesn't sweep it doesnt work. If I turn it off and on again it works. Just started today. Did a search and will be checking fuses and battery cables.

I a wiggle on my key and the bike shuts off. Ignition switch time.

Thanks all. Keep them coming. Right now I am leaning toward connectors on the ignition switch or the switch itself and will start on it after lunch when I get off work. (Dyno this afternoon!), so I have to hurry.
