Depending on your Landrover you might have hydraulic lifters etc

Erm - no!. How on Earth do you expect them to get Hydraulics to work if they cant stop oil from escaping.

I did actually check them once. They were fine. A 2.5L with 111CV is hardly going to notice a thou or two.
