I feel pretty good about the ride, that I was able to mentally keep pushing myself despite the posterior discomfort.
As for the seat, I had bought the Triumph seat with the backrest already installed (I assume it came unassembled as it was a display and Travis, my salesman, said it was a bear to put together). I put the original stocker in storage. The backrest actually worked pretty well but I had to keep making sure my "camelback" water supply was properly positioned behind the backrest or it was noticeably uncomfortable (pushing my lower back too far forward).
I tried riding without underwear (leaving from Key West...no jokes please), with underwear, after changing during the rainstorm, and moving around quite a bit, after about 60 miles that is when it started getting uncomfortable for me. Usually I would just stop and "rest" a couple of minutes and then get back on. My second to the last stretch during my second to last gas stop lasted till my last gas stop 179 miles later. Next trip I may try those biker short type underwear...forget what they are called and see if they offer more comfort...or I may just get a newer (likely more expensive) seat that is custom built for comfort, Russell or other, as the bike was willing to go a lot further (a thousand mile day is easily attainable) but the seat is going to have to be a lot more forgiving.
Tomorrow I am going to have breakfast with my former Gold Wing rider gang at the Golden Corral for old times sake and I think I can ride the Triumph now...today I gave it a rest and now the butt feels better...back to normal.
On one of my gas stops I got 201 miles to my tank with 8/10th's of a gallon still in the tank so I probably could have gone another 25 miles or so but decided I needed to fill up.
