Any of you guys (or gals) use a motorcycle jack to lift yur R3? Does it work ok lifitng on the engine? I would love to hear your experiences and what type jack you use. I am lookig at getting a Larin MAL-2C for my R3.

Thanks..Mitch

This is from a previous post, it works well for me and would work with almost any jack. The only problem would be if you still have the cat on your bike, I never had one and I don't know if it sets lower than the bottom of the engine. Good luck

IDK,

I like the disclaimer!

1. Make sure that you remove the bracket after using and before riding. Serious injury and damage to the bike may occur if this is not done.

2. These plans are given with the understanding that you use them at your own risk. If you do not know know how to use equipment safely and/or do not have common sense then you should not use these plans or this equipment, in fact, you probably should not even be riding.

Mitch, I bought one of he Black Max scissors type jacks after watching my buddy at John's Performance Shop lift Electra Glides. I went through the same thing as you, wondering if it was OK to put pressure on the engine. I believe it is, with some guys doing it, but have not seen anything in any Triumph literature that confirms it.

The Black Max has about an 8x18 inch platform with a larger adaptor plate which can be attached. I put it under the center stand mounting brackets and add a piece of hardwood to ensure the steel lifting plate doesn't contact the rear of engine when I lift the bike. The center stand mounts appear to be at or very near the bikes pivot point but will of course vary depending on what you have on the bike.

I am presently in Hawaii, arriving home on the 18th. Shoot me a PM if you want to stop by and see how mine works. You can borrow the lift if you want to try one first.

Thanks Mike

Thanks Mike. I ordered my jack today and figured I too would use the center stand mounting holes in some way. Does your configuraton allow you to drain the oil with the bike up on the stand?

Looks like we are in for some nice weather ahead, about 85 by the end of the week.

Thanks..Mitch

Re: Thanks Mike

Figures. Every time we go away the weather turns nice. Hopefully it will hold.

I just raised the bike as an experiment when I was checking my shocks. I didn't use it for changing my oil at 5K but would definitely be help because all three plugs are unobstructed and it gives more clearance. One of the first things I found about changing the oil on the Rocket is that it is the most difficult of any bike I have owned because it sits so low. I couldn't get any of my drain pains under the Rocket so had to use one of my wife's baking pans. My second discovery that day was that my wife can get upset over the smallest things, well, like a baking pan. She funny that way.

Now that's the one I want and will get eventually order. If you go to the motocycle lift accessories, it lists the Black Jack (did yours come with one?). That is the correct name for mine, not the Black Max as I erroneously referred to it. With the big lift you can get the bike off the ground so you don't have to lay on your back to work on it. With the Black Max, it can then be raised off the lift, providing more clearance for oil/tire/shock changes etc.

Yes I got the auxilary lift(Black Jack 1000).. it comes with inserts that you can put in the top depending on the diameter of your frame.. The auxilary lift makes changing the tires pretty easy.
