I had mini apes on my cb750, I took them off because I wanted a completely stock look, but regretted it, they were the perfect position.

Yes and no and sort of. The rise is about the same the hand position is completely different.

I tried 10" but the brake line is to short. 8" works with stock cables.

That would be stock cable on a RIII Classic - which are longer than those on a Standard model.
