hi there from germany,

has anybody any experience with longer/extended rear shocks?
standard length is 12 1/2", some are on 13" to improve cornering.
i am looking for even longer shocks.
the problem would rather be the steeper angle on the driveshaft coupling.
what maximum lenghth is advisable without putting too much stress onto the final drive?

best regards from the german outback

wolfram

Put 13" on mine ( progressives) big improvement on cornering, clearance etc.. Had ground half way thru the pegs on standard shocks, now it goes right over without toutching. Frankly I'd not bother trying to find longer, you just don't need to. 8)

I can't offer anything to help with your quest for longer shocks.... just wondering why you'd want them much longer?

handling?

neat project?

hi captains,

thank you for your feedback.
i'd like to improve cornering as well as a higher sitting position.
i am 6 foot 8" and have long legs...
and i like the looks of a bike with a high rear end.

I also have YSS 13.5" and the cornering clearance and lean angle is much improved over stock. No chicken strips on my rear tire

I have Avon's and all right I admit it, the rears have maybe a 1/4" that's scuffed but not completely worn  The Avons have steeper sidewalls than the Metz, I think.

you can also do a custom seat..... at 6'5" I can just barely get my feet down with my new seat....... like a road sofa

Max length is 13.5" because beyond that the swingarm/driveshaft is bottomed out (no more free play). You can also improve cornering clearance going to the darkside rear tire. I've done both (Hagon Nitro's on the rear) and the Rock handled Deals Gap (318 curves in 11 miles) no problem.
