The Harley baggers use a plastic cover/grommet set up like ours. Due to that fact, I've always been carefull installing my side covers, as I know it's a problem. I must have pushed the grommet through the hole or something when I installed the cover.

The dealer states there is a new part number for the grommet. Maybe Triumph changed the grommet. But I had to keep from laughing when the dealer said he had never heard of the problem. How convenient! If I had LOST the cover like Harry, I would have went at it with Triumph to get a warranty replacement.

So Triumph though it a good idea to bolt the seat down on the Touring and clip on the side covers.:confused::confused:

And the mufflers are bolted to the saddlebag mounts, the handlebars are rubber mounted, and they designed it with a rear tire size that leaves absolutely no option for a V rated tire.

Other than that, they did a wonderful job.

FLASH!!! I received the new grommets from the dealer. $1.89 each. I ordered two. The dealer said Triumph has a new part number for the grommets. They look different, but I don't see any difference in the way they fit. The fit of the cover piece going into the grommet is much easier than the Harley covers. I wonder if that's why the covers blow off? Or is it because the R3T has so much power, the covers can't hold on? ;)

I had a side cover blow off a 1972 GT550 Indy once (in 2007). It too was rubber grommeted. Odd how 35 years of neglect makes the rubber hard as stone................:D

I lost one, as well. Didn't recover it. My lament was well-documented on this site.

The Touring side covers are much different than the ones on the Classic, Standard, etc.

I can tell you that BikeBandit.com had the best replacement cost than anywhere else (except eBay, if you can find one). Remember the 10% AMA discount.

Is that how you do it? I've been neglected for years, but it ain't made my rubber any harder! ;)

Yes. It helps if you're a little weather checked as well for added stiffness (be careful though, it gets brittle after that:eek:).:D
