A motorcyclist was killed Sunday after a lightning bolt struck his helmet on Florida's I-95, authorities said.

The story as reported on Fox News:

"The motorcyclist was hit while traveling southbound on I-95 in Volusia County in the afternoon, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

A photo posted on the agency’s official Twitter page showed the motorcyclist’s helmet cracked and burned from the apparent lightning strike.

The motorcyclist was a 45-year-old man from Charlotte, N.C., Orlando's Fox 35 reported. His name was not released.

An off-duty Virginia trooper cited by the station said he witnessed the strike happen. The impact from the lighting caused the motorcyclist to exit the roadway and then crash, he said.

    No other information was released."

For the rider's sake, I hope the lightning strike killed him instantaneously and not the resultant crash.

Living in Florida, thunderstorms and lightning strikes are common. As a daily rider, I sometimes have to ride in/through them. I figure the odds are in my favor.

If God were to bring me home in this way, at least I would be doing something I love when it happens.

Actually in Florida you have better odds than the rest of America:eek: Florida is the lightning capital of the USA ,as a High School sports official it amaazes me when i have to stop the game because of lightning and a few parents complain, in fact one even told me if I do not restart the game within 5min he would kick my arse(like he could) now it was fun watching the sherriff on duty escorting him from the grounds plus the school told him he could not attend any sporting events for two years.
