Can't seem to find a comparison with a stock 1157 bulb. Some of their other bulbs do have comparisons and look impressive. It will cost me about $37.00 to find out. (they only come in packs of two).

Just order them. Will let you know if they work.

Have you guys taken a look at the reviews on the LED bulbs in Webbikeworld?

Motorcycle Lighting Reviews - LED Light Reviews - Headlight Modulators - webBikeWorld

Some good background info there.

Cheers.

Thanks for the link. They didn't cover the ones I'm buying but good info just the same. It sound like maybe I wasted my money. Webbike world claims they found no led lights that would out shine a standard 1157 . What got me looking into it is recently at a bike event here, a lot of HD's had after market led tail lights. They are MUCH brighter, BUT, they are an entire assembly, not a pop in replacement.

Some of the webbike reviews are a little dated now. LED technology is advancing all the time so it is difficult to keep up. It will be interesting to see what is currently out there and what is new on the horizon.
Let us know how it turns out... we're all curious to know.

The thing with LEDS is that 90% of the sellers have no real idea of the technology.

Good to know a Spider type fits. :gp:

There are several very powerful RED LED 1157 type bulbs out there

As a minimum look for 5050SMD - The more the merrier.

If they look like little domed LED's. IN GENERAL - OLD TECHNOLOGY.

There are them others that use the CREE Q5 (5W) LED - but make sure it has radial SMD's as well. Others that are about 7.5W using arrays - All these will be BRIGHT.

I use CREE T6 10W LEDs as halogen bulb replacements. A Q5 puts out about 228lumens - almost spot on half what a 21W tungsten puts out when new - on paper.

BUT a tungsten emits a radial spherical light - a Led generally narrower.

ALSO remember that a tungsten puts out pretty much the colours of the rainbow. A RED LED emits RED light. ALWAYS match the LED colour to the lens colour (except clear lenses).

Radial LEDs will make use of the reflector - otherwise you get a VERY directional light output. And what you want is scatter.

A big downside to LED tail/brake units is that the difference between tail and brake can be remarkably small. Especially true of older simpler LEDs.

I get my LEDs from Asia. They're almost always ahead of the game.

Wattage vs Lumens?

Thanks for the link. They didn't cover the ones I'm buying but good info just the same. It sound like maybe I wasted my money. I would be interested in these if only for the reduced power consumption. Would be great if we knew what the amp draw was compared to an 1157. I went with LED running lights simply because with the same lumens as a halogen they draw less than 1/10th the amperage.
LED's are a big benefit with our Rockets, as we all know the lighting system is overtaxed as it is. Thanks for the info Fred:bch:
