I have only ever used the kill switch once. But it took an hour of trying to figure out why the bloody bike would not start to realise I had "accidentally" used it! 
I guess we have all been there. However, I seem to remember that the lights were still on which would be the power drain Triumph are on about.

If you took the kill switch apart and had a look at the components that go together to make the switch it would instill no confidence whasoever in the longevity of the switch.
You would very hard pushed to find anywhere that could make an inferior/cheaper switch. The Chinese factory that makes crap for the Dollar stores would easily be able to make a better quality switch.
