The way you describe it, it sounds like chain noise from the overhead cams. That can sound like a supercharger spinning up.

Yup...coming from upper engine block/head...probably the ohc.
I'm just gonna ride it and not worry about it.

Well, rode some more today...the sound is for sure a whistle. Increases in pitch as rpms increase. Finally, as engine speed increases high enough, and I let out the clutch, sound either goes away, or pitch is too high for me to hear, (but the dogs prolly love it! )

Oil is OK, coolant was low, but I filled it; runs great, so I'm not gonna worry about it. Just gonna let 'er whistle. Makes everyone at the stop lights think i got a blower!
