I wonder if Triumph trademarked the Roadster name for motorcycles? Just a random thought. There have been lawsuits over stuff like that.

The term is probably used descriptively so much it can't be trademarked.

You are probably right. I was thinking Beretta Firearms and Chevy Beretta, once GM lost in court the name went away pretty quick as a car name.

Aspirin used to be trademarked by Bayer - until it became part of our language and then they lost its registration.

Next time a motorcycle magazine does a comparison, they have something to compare the R3R to. After all they are in the same class now.

A few years ago I as getting my '09 Rocket serviced and the dealer told me he was going to lend me a Roadster to see if I liked it. The funny ***c handed me the keys to one of these with a big smile on his face - Sachs Roadster 650.
Incidentally, Triumph has family groupings for its bikes; Classic, Touring, Adventure, Roadster, Cruiser. The Rocket is in the Cruiser family, not a Roadster. The Roadsters are the Speed and Street Triples.
Tiger Sport is a Touring, not an Adventure, and the R3T is a Cruiser, not a Touring.
Go figure.
