was thinking Estonia (not quite eastern but!!)
PS the R3 rally in germany always take place at bad bruckenau 70 kms east of frankfurt and the hotel (same every year ) put a fantastic barbecue on saturday .in 2010 it was done in early july. and we had about 60 r3.

cant find anything out,but iv asked the question on the video,hopefully someone will speak english

I attended the 2010 rocket rally there with mine flown from western canada in early july and the place is just a few miles from the black forest great memories great twisties !! and excellent beer.

Hi Albertaduke.
I am interested with your comment of shipping your bike.

Reason why.
I had the great idea of flying to Madrid, renting a motorcycle and touring up to Amsterdam (one way rental) and then flying back to Atlanta.
No one that I could find will do one way rentals (like you do with cars in US) .

Another idea! Then I tried to ship my bike by rail (Amtrak) from Atlanta to New York, where we could tour that beautiful state (east to west and back to east).
Made the enquiry and they said that I would have to drain the fluids (fuel and engine oil) and construct a wooden crate for shipping...f#(k me!...so that was the end of that dream

Please let us know some rough details how you shipped your bike across the pond?
Did you have to build a crate etc.
About how much did it cost.

I think it would be so cool to tour up from Spain, Switzerland, France through Belgium into The Netherlands.

Many years ago, while living in Wales, I toured Belgium, France and Holland on my Lambretta, It was a blast at that time!
On the road, in Belgium, I met this guy, from America, on a Norton Commando. (I saw him approaching through my many mirrors) We stopped a while and chatted. He said he could not slow cruise with me , he needed to catch the ferry to UK.
Told me that he had spent over a month in Europe. Purchased the bike, toured and then final leg in England, sell the bike and fly home...That was so cool.

I think it was then that I thought that my old man was right...about the motorcycle anyway!

I did a three months tour in 2010 rode the alps and pyrenees and to this day never experienced a better summer vacation

all I can give as advice is what i did from the province of alberta I live in Calgary and
the shipping by air on air canada was a basic endeavour. I rode the bike to the cargo area at the airport in calgary booked the passage to frankfurt direct for the bike told them the tank was nearly empty (they have no way of checking anyway and you need some fuel to go to the nearest gas station in frankfurt) disconnected the battery .
me and the cargo employe moved the bike on a flat aluminium pallet weighted the bike and strapped it . loaded all my luggage on the rack (as I knew over weight baggage at the airline counter for passenger would cost me lots more) submitted a DANGEROUS GOOD INVOICE (very very important) special form and only authorized DG people can write it up broker will charge about $200 to prepare if you are not a DG trained person. then paid the regular cargo rate to frankfurt $3 .00 a kilo basically $900 one way to frankfurt DO NOT SHIP TO LONDON IT IS A NIGHTMARE .
in frankfurt take bus 64 to cargo area go to aircanada cargo show your papers get the stamp, go to custom (same building) show YOUR GREEN VALID EURO INSURANCE PAPER (you can buy euro insurance direct from german broker or from a agent in florida) get the stamp, back at the aircan desk get your bike unstrapped and that is it... it is a 45 minute procedure altogether the bike flew on the same flight as me the insurance was 300 euro for 3 months your regular driving license and plates are fine but make sure you have a GPS to get out of the airport area cause all road signs are in german and there are so many (AUSFHARTS) EXITS and highways leading away.
then you will be in Paradise.
once in france or italy or austria you will split lane along with hundreds of other bikes you will park pretty much wherever you wish and if you speed reasonnably nobody will chase you.. you will experience some out of this world scenery , in the alps the roads are always in excellent shape .. for some pictures go to my thread "riding in paradise " and check the pics... you'll see narrow roads but cars will move out of the way when you split lane or need to pass on narrow lanes.
now from the US I have no idea how you ship but I imagine it would be similar..

PS funny I also owned a lambretta when I was 18 in southern france, once I skidded at a stop sign after trying to stop. the lambretta fell on me and the fan (not covered ) started to rip my pants in a place I dearly wished to keep intact , finally the cloth and zipper jammed the fan, the engine quit and all the fleshy parts remained intact. thank god. I fathered a child later in life so the plumbing was intact..


So go to the alps and the pyrenee use the michelin maps for your planning they are the best and show the real scenic roads with a green over yellow along the tracks. have the best fun ever on two wheels.. since you will find B & B everywhere figure $100 a day on the low end for daily expense mind you now fuel is about $10 A GALLON and lodging probably $60 a night but beer is still reasonnable you will never forget the experience!!

In the USA you can ship a bike on a 18 wheeler. The trucks have a motorcycle dolly that they strap it down on. Cost will be around $1000.00 east coast to west coast.

interesting I will have to check if cargo rate went up since 2010 ..$1000 for east west shipping by truck and $900 to cross the pond from calgary to frankfurt..by 767
