I'm not really a Dodge/Chrysler fan, but i have to admit the engineering that went into this car kinda blows my mind. Maybe some day the motorcycle manufacturers will recruit more engineers.

I do like all the SRT stuff, really. The Charger too is very much a muscle car in a sedan package. But these kinds of dinosaurs won't be viable very much longer, and at this point I have to wonder who they're for. The mega rich will buy more exclusive European brands and the upper middle class... well, I suppose that explains 1200, that's one for each of those remaining, the rest are falling into poverty...

The crazy thing about the 1200 number, Dodge built a new dyno to accommodate the torque these motors make, the Viper dyno cell they had could not handle it. The Supercharger is a custom built IHI unit. The ECU is a complete rework. The list goes on of parts engineered from scratch, and all that adds up to very high R&D costs.

The reason I am furious with dodge, is the 61k MSRP coupled with only 1200 built, ensures they are building this car to break even at best, and likely taking a net loss at the end of this project once you factor in all track testing, etc etc.

Essentially, the 1200 number is a "screw you every man" production point, because while there is a huge number of people who can afford the 61k, only so many cars are available. Had they not done this, I would be waiting to take delivery of my Hellcat instead of riding my new rocket.

They may yet decide to build more in future years, perhaps it's 1200 a year, we don't know yet, but no matter their decision, SRT lost a repeat buying loyal customer for life because of it.

As a side note: there is a lot of speculation about how easy it will be to hit 1000 whp with these cars. People are going to be veeeeeeery disappointed lol. While enough money will always get you there, the Terminator Mustang era days of swapping in a new pulley to up boost, adding fuel via a Hand held tuner, and making crazy power are long gone. There are at least 3 different systems on the Hellcat designed to prevent this, the first of which is a bear. Fully locked and encrypted ECU that goes into limp mode if a non Dodge tool is plugged in

A 707 HP muscle car...perhaps Dodge should consider getting in the production motorcycle business? Just a random thought.

I still think Triumph needs to take the R3 platform and design a new beast that has insane amounts of power out of the gates, kind of like the equivalent of this car in the motorcycle world. Say, 250-300 horses, something loony like that. Just for the bragging rights. Hell, why not make that a limited run too just to piss people off.
