Had a few issues with the Rocket in Sept and was too sad to post until I got her back. Diagnosis was as follows:
FOUND KEYWAY WAS WORN AND CAM CHAIN TENSIONER WAS CRACKED-AS A RESULT TIMING GOT OFF AND BENT EXHAUST VALVES
It was a horrible sounding noise ladies and gentleman, I was stranded at a bar for four hours waiting for the Cavalry with only beer to keep my company.

In other news, now that I have her back, my fuel light comes on after 3.5 gallons, use to be 4.2, is there a way to adjust this?

Read on....

Did they do the upgrade kit? I am asking because one of the things that gets replaced I believe is the fuel sender. So your dealer may have done something wrong?

This might help you... http://www.r3owners.net/common-issues/2746-low-fuel-light-fix-pictures.html

Welcome back BTW.:D

I have to chime in here with Pigger. He know just what my bike went through this winter. They way I was told (and I've posted on this elsewhere).... Any condition, Paint can rattle...(which is the lower sprocket key/timing chain/guides), Rubber shifter...(false neutral), or TDU output bearing failure or excessive noise, warrants a complete upgrade of all conditions no matter which condition contributes to the breakdown.

Everything was replaced on my bike including a complete teardown top to bottom. I got everything from transmission gears to wiring harness and plug wires. I even got new clurch springs and a new lifter shaft woohoo.... My sending unit and float was replaced as well and I distinctly remember seeing it laying in the pile of parts in the box that was headed back to Newman. Mine got noisy at Eureka Springs last summer and it sat in the garage, out of warranty until this winter and then it got rebuilt and Triumph covered the bike 100%.

Without being clarvoyant, only a guess would be that the sending unit is replaced to cure the early fuel light as mine comes on now when there is fumes left (I actually liked it better the old, too soon way). I'm wondering if the technician might have inadvertently bent the rod a bit re-installing it. It is a bastard fit through the hole in the bottom.

I think I'd question your dealer befor I took it apart myself. Just my 2cents
