I have visited my Triumph dealer in Taunton and they spent some time going through the electrics on the bike, the bike has already had the Triumph mod done. They eventually found that the main connector from the ignition switch to the loom was faulty. As Triumph only sell a complete loom and the bike is out of warranty I told them to go ahead with a bypass made of bullet connectors with heat shrink around them to keep the water out. Here's the offending item:
This is the bike end of the loom to the ignition switch cable (ignition switch diconnected)
This is the offending item, if you look at the bottom left corner you can see where the large port has burnt through to one of the smaller ones.

Bloody hell thats bad - I thought I had heard it all when I couldn't get a replacement plastic shield for my final drive unit (Item 2 on image below), I was obviously wrong.
