My service wrench came on today. I have 8000 miles before it needs one. The date says 31 days till service. Why won't it let me reset the date which is obviously wrong.

Is the correct date and time set up in your dash? Have you disconnected your battery recently, if so, the date and time needs to be reset and the wrench goes away. Tune ECU is the other method of resetting the service wrench.

If the wrench light is bugging you, just set the actual date on the bike forward a year. I had to do that once when the shop set the service date wrong, and then wanted to charge me $125 to set it correctly. That was the last time I used that shop.

Define "wrong"?

This light comes 11 months after the last service and stays on after 12 months.

It's time coded - not mileage...
The bike has 2100 miles. Oil has been changed twice. Once by me then the water pump went out. So the oil was changed again at the dealer. The mileage to next change reads 8000+ but the next change date is at the end of this month it shows. It is counting down the days. So that tells me the dealer reset the mileage but not the date to next service. And it wont let me change it.

Most of what you said does not matter.

The only thing that counts in your case is time - and this arrives at it's end. The dealer can not reset mileage - he can only influence time.

Welcome to the actual reality - some ten years ago WE had been the Gods that decided the service intervalls after warranty. Today it's your bike...

By the way: I had the same "problem" in January - I passed by my dealer and he connected the bike to the diagnostic to add a new year until the next service. Cost me 5,- € into the coffee pot...
