I was on the Valkyrie Riders site and watch a video titled "why killboy will not ride the dragon on a bike ever again"

It showed several trucks taking up the whole road while traveling it.

My friends and I plant to ride sometime the week of the 23rd along with the skyway.

thanks

Being about 10,000 miles away in Oz, I wouldn't know BUT ... thought I read somewhere not long ago that the trucks were (to be?) banned from the Dragon.
Maybe someone knows more????

that would not hurt my feelings at all, I watched a you tube last night where a cop wrote someone a ticket for 45 in a 30 mph zone. The film stated that cops are on it almost every day:(

I've seen the police in Deals Gap but not stopping bikers and I've ridden the Dragon a few times. I have also seen the trucks. Flatbeds will drive it unloaded and drag their trailers along the mountain on the inside of the turns because they just dont fit. Yes, they do take up the entire road.

Rode the dragon umpteen times and only spotted the cops once, best time is during the week it is usually pretty quiet.
The trucks have as much right to be on the road as the bikes do, I have seen some pretty big lorrys on that road but I have also seen some pretty stupid bikers:D it all equals out in the end.

I was up there last Saturday... Weekdays are definitely much better but traffic was a little slower this past weekend due to the scattered showers in the area. I worry more about the sport bikes than the trucks. Having one pass you on the inside on a tight turn is scary.

The sky way is my favorite road... more sweepers than tight turns.

We will be riding up from Hiawasse, GA. We intend to do the skyway first then come back on the dragon picking up the Moonshiner headed back to GA.

I was told that NC had signs warning truckers so we thought our chances might be better riding that way.

I agree the trucks have as much right as the bikes but only if they can navigate without taking up the whole road. We won't be riding fast anyway.

Dangerous roads

Hello from down under . I read with interest about these dangerous roads you guys have to share with trucks and sports bike . Being both a truck driver for 30years and a motor bike rider for a similar time ,I have come to the conclusion on roads similar I believe that every truck should have a pilot car at least 200metres in front of the truck to warn on comming traffic . I have been working in these situations a lot lately .believe you me it's bloody stressful . Stay safe mate peterk

I've ridden the 'dragon' and there is no reason why trucks bigger than my pickup need to be on that road. The whole reason for putting the interstate I-40 to I-81 was to get trucks off that road. The only reason they take it is fewer miles. BAN 'EM!!
