OK, I thought this thread was pointing towards highway pegs without engine guards.:confused:
Has anybody been successful mounting pegs without the guards without too much customizing??
 
That would be a trick in as much as the engine is an integral stressed member (no down tubes). You'd have to still fasten a cross tube with welded lugs to mount under the footpeg rails to carry the highway pegs so you might as well mount the chrome t.o. bars and bolt a couple squeeze clamped pegs to those. If indeed you mounted a cross tube affair, you'd have to purchase longer fasteners because because the stock rail fasteners aren't long enough to accomodate a lug underneath them anyway. I still believe for a highway peg mount, the Rivco bars are much more substantial than the OEM tubes. The only reason the Rivco's flex less is because they join at the top and bolt to the case/frame stub at the top too. The OEM bars don't. I can wiggle Bart's really easy. That's not confidence inspiring to me at all.
