Has anyone had a problem with their Rocket hesitating while in the "cruising" mode? Whenever I accelerate the Rocket does fine. But when I settle down to a cruising speed I get a kind of sputtering/hesitation every now and then.

When I got on I-10 yesterday and had the Rocket going betrween 90 and a 100 for about 30 miles yesterday I didn't notice it at all.

sounds just like the reformulated gas symptoms that happens around this time of year. high humidity/heat combo seems to cause sputter issues during daylight driving in the summer months. rocket runs much better on this stuff when the sun goes down....

Since you ride in the rain a lot, squirt some di-electric grease on the blade connectors on the coils under the right hand side of the tank.

I don't know for sure that the rain has anything to do with it, though I have had a number of rides in the rain, but the di-electric grease solved the issue for me. It was only a month ago that I too had inquired about this same issue. I didn't have di-electric compound to apply, though I have since acquired a new supply, so I used Vaseline and it has worked perfect thus far. Otherwise, remove and re-attach the blade connectors several times to reacquire a good/strong connection for both connectors.

That front coil is a PITA to get to. for a blind Captain, but it's accessible.
 
Well problem solved. It appears that with all my wiring, installing new spark plugs (still had the same problem) that a Map sensor line near the rear of the third cylinder was "compressed" for want of a better word. Dink finally had a chance to look at it, thought it may have been a coil, but they all checked out. Then him and Chris found the "compressed" Map sensor line, got it into a "proper" position and the Rocket runs like new.

I came in at one point and saw them removing the coil "rail" from the looks of it, once you remove it from the frame the coils are pretty easy to get to. Wish I had taken some pictures.

It is great to have a good "pit" crew where you work...I'm going to miss them.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is the square sensor on the left with the "1" on it. The vaccum hoses on the right connect to it.

Thanks Pig9er. I remember seeing thatlittle gizmo when I had my cams out. When I told my local dealer that I pulled my cams and reset the timing they gave me a deer in the headlights stare. Then the mechanic said that that was uncharted territory for them. They haven't had to do anything that extensive before to a Rocket. I then told them that I'd be back in the fall for a new timing chain to replace over the winter. I think they wanted to offer me a job.
Oh yeah and when they asked why I had the cams out I explained it was to find and or fix the paint can rattle which they never heard of . I could not find any wear or reason for the rattle but when I put it all back together the rattle was GONE. Now all I have to do is find a custom PC3 tune for the Jars and K&N's that I just installed yesterday.
